Changes to seven bus routes in the east

- Changes to routes 740, 744 and 989
- New routes 745 and 746
- Withdrawal of routes 742 and 743

We're tweaking our current network of bus services in the east to serve you better. All changes effective Sunday, 3 August 2008.

Route 740 to be split into two - new routes 740 and 745

The sector between Sengkang and Tampines will be integrated into extended route 740 which will now run between Ang Mo Kio and Tampines Interchanges. Service 740 will no thus no longer serve Sengkang Interchange. This extension will see commuters having a more progressive travel from the northeast to the Tampines regional centre.

The sector between Tampines and Marine Parade Road will be integrated into new route 745 which will run between Tampines and Bukit Merah Interchanges. This new service will provide a direct service for Marine Parade residents to Bugis and Chinatown.

Route 989 to be shortened to Bukit Merah

Following the changes to routes 740 and 745, service 989 will be paralleling the connection between Bukit Merah and Marine Parade/Upper East Coast. As such, to reduce wasteful duplication, service 989 will be amended to terminate at Bukit Merah Interchange at the moment.

Route 744 to serve more of Bedok

Besides being the choice service among Punggol residents for its fast and direct link to the Tampines regional centre, service 744 will be enhanced to connect part of Bedok North Road with Bedok South Road, currently not served by any other routes. Residents along these roads will also be able to enjoy direct and much faster bus links to the Tampines regional centre. The service will no longer serve Upper East Coast Terminal.

New route 746 - Tampines to HarbourFront via Orchard Road

Taking advantage of the new Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE), new service 746 will significantly cut down travel time between Tampines and the CBD, in addition to enhancing links within Tampines West.

In addition, service 746 will serve as a convenient night bus service back home for revellers in the Kim Seng/Orchard corridors as the last bus from HarbourFront on Friday and Saturday nights will only depart at 0200 hours!

Routes 742 and 743 to be withdrawn

We have been trying our best to continue running these two routes, but current ridership figures simply do not even meet the rising costs of operating them.

Affected passengers of service 743 however, do have an alternative. We have worked with XY Buses who will be tweaking the route of their service 38 to run through Expo station and Upper Changi Road East.
