UrbanLinkz Buses introduces its first 24-hour bus service - Route 785

In our continuous efforts to serve our customers even better, UrbanLinkz Buses will be introducing its first-ever 24-hour bus service with effect from Friday, 7 September 2007. Route 785, currently plying between Clementi and Bedok has been chosen as the trial 24-hour service due to its high demand throughout the day.

The service, which serves Marine Parade enroute, also provides direct links to favourite nightspots such as Holland Village, Orchard Road and Suntec City which should help make the route viable to be run overnight especially on weekends.

The current last buses for service 785 leave the respective interchanges at 2330 hours. With the change, the route will have virtually no first and last buses. However, the frequency from 2330 hours to 0530 hours will be slightly lower than the current daytime service frequency of about ten minutes. During the said period, buses will arrive every 20 to 30 minutes.

With regards to the fare structure, commuters may be delighted to know that normal trunk fares apply for the 24-hour bus service 785, unlike the current UrbanLinkz NightLinkz services which charge a premium flat fare of $3.

Hailing the move as a major milestone in the development of Singapore's public transport sector, Minister for Transport Mr Raymond Lim said:

"The introduction of the new 24-hour bus service by UrbanLinkz is yet another boost in the government's long-term efforts to increase the appeal and ridership of the local public transport system, in particular the trains and buses.

Such initiatives by the local public transport operators would help support the continuous growth in demand for travel as Singapore evolves into a 24-hour hub for entertainment which can rival that of established cities with a vibrant nightlife such as Paris and London."

Echoing the Minister's remarks, CEO of UrbanLinkz Corporation, parent company of UrbanLinkz Buses added:

"The 24-hour bus services complement our popular NightLinkz services already operating on weekend nights now. If demand for such 24-hour bus services is high enough to sustain profitable operations, then the general public would be very glad to know that UrbanLinkz and its sister companies will not hesitate to roll out more of such services in the near future.

Night revellers can also expect a better level of service for our established NightLinkz bus services which will receive a major revamp in the near future, especially in terms of a wider service coverage that is set to include the latest night hotspot in town - the HarbourFront precinct."
